Passion or Obsession...

 Dear Reader,

Most of you, who already really know me, acknowledge my obsession with the Titanic. Over the years, I have collected several items related to the Titanic. I could not actually believe how many books I own, movies that I have collected, memorabilia, shows at the local museum, and much more. It occurred to me the other day, while I was watching season three of "And Just Like That," a spin-off of  HBO's Sex and the City, which, to be perfectly honest, I am thankful that was the last season they produced of that (I had expected more out of the show, tbh). It occurred to me that sometimes writing isn't always about writing what you know, but writing about your passion.

So, let me give you some context. Nothing is making sense at this point. In the third season, Carrie is waiting for her love to return to her (Aidan), which, let me tell you, he is so not the same guy. I was surprised that they depicted him as a bad guy in the show. She begins to write her next novel. I was pleased to see that this was a novel set in historical times, where being alone in life was such a bad thing. She took some literary liberties and drew on parts of her life in her book. It confused some of her friends who read some pages about whether any of it was true. Her editor called the book a tragic romance, but it should have been historical fiction. Okay, so you are probably wondering what this matters... am I right?

I have decided to put my Murder Mystery book on a shelf for a bit and actually focus on the joy of writing. When I say the joys of writing, I mean that I do not have to figure out the semantics of the story, and I can just write. This will help me pump out my first actual novel and write about something I enjoy/obsess over. I have decided to use the Titanic story and give it my own spin, including my main character and her journey through this disaster. I am excited to read as much as I can about the Titanic and this history. Additionally, what details, if any, were left out? I pulled all the books I had off the shelf and plan to do some serious reading to see what, if any, areas I can improve on or put my own spin on.

I am sure you are all thinking... man, this girl watches way too much TV, but I assure you... I have had the last week and a half off from work, and I still have about two weeks to go. I have lots of time, time I wish I didn't, but can't win them all. :-)

** I will keep you posted on where I take it from here. **
